Important Message From Your Chairman, Cllr. Bob Wennington
Dear Residents,
You may already be aware or have seen in the press that Telford &Wrekin Council are currently conducting a Community Governance Review of Town and Parish Councils and that on Monday evening the review committee made the recommendation to ABOLISH Dawley Hamlets Parish Council.
Dawley Hamlets Parish Council wishes to remain a Parish Council serving its residents. If the abolition goes ahead our residents will transfer to neighbouring town and parish councils, this is likely to significantly impact how our residents are democratically represented at parish level and also financially as neighbouring town and parish councils currently levy significantly higher taxes:
Parish/Town Council Council Tax Band D Equivalent 2025/26
Dawley Hamlets Parish Council £29.04
Great Dawley Town Council £317.00
Lawley & Overdale Parish Council £108.55
Madeley Town Council £164.20
The Gorge Parish Council £63.91
Our first phase submission is available to read on our website: https://www.dawley-hamlets.org/news/2025/04/09/parish-councils-response-twc%E2%80%99s-community-governance-review-2025
This review will enter a second phase on Monday 19th May 2025 and will run until Monday 14th July 2025 and will be the final opportunity for the Parish Council, our residents and all other interested parties to submit their comments. Once details of the second stage are released, we will publish them together with details of how you can submit your views to the Telford & Wrekin Council Review Committee.
Your next Parish Council meeting is on Wednesday 21st May, at this meeting the Parish Council will discuss the recommendation and how we best engage with the community to ensure our residents are fully aware of the review and the implications if Dawley Hamlets Parish Council was to be abolished. This Parish Council meeting is open to all members of the public and you are very welcome to attend; it will be held at Aqueduct Primary School in the main hall at 7pm.
Full details of the Community Governance Review recommendations can be found on the Telford & Wrekin Council website: https://democracy.telford.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=1165&MId=2827&Ver=4
